Frequently asked questions
What is LouvainMUN?
LouvainMUN is a student association open to all UCLouvain students dedicated to empowering young people both professionally and personally through the Model United Nations (MUN) framework.
Throughout the academic year, weekly intensive training sessions, guest lectures and workshops in English equip members with the necessary tools to improve knowledge, understanding and critical thinking about global issues and diplomacy while boosting both personal growth and professional profile through the acquisition of highly valuable soft skills.
This involves a thorough preparation to participate in at least two international MUN conferences. In addition to leverage training, this opportunity enables LouvainMUN members to travel, make connections, expand their horizons and to work in cultural diversity.
You'll also get the opportunity to support the board in coordinating our activities and further developping the association in sponsoring, communication, events or logistics & HR. It doesn't take a lot of time, it's a great way to immerse yourself even more in the LouvainMUN experience, to acquire extra skills and to have a loads of fun!
What is a MUN ?
Model United Nations, or MUN, consists in simulations of United Nations negotiations that usually take place over three days. These are intended for students who are passionate about international relations, diplomacy or global issues. The participants are asked to defend the interests of a country in one of committee of the UN or any other international bodies on a particular topic.
At the last conference in which our delegation participated our members notably represented:
Indonesia in the Security Council on the situation in Hong Kong
Singapore in the World Trade Organisation on regulating e-commerce
Slovakia in the Council of the EU on the European Green Deal
Ukraine in the Human Right Council on combatting discrimination against women in post conflict societies
Brazil in the Disarmament and International Security Committee on shaping responsible state behavior in cyberspace

How to apply?
LouvainMUN organises one application session a year (late April). You can also meet us at at our various events on the Louvain-la-Neuve campus or online. To apply, check the apply page. All the needed information is provided there.
If you are on exchange during the recruitment process, do not worry! We will be happy to consider your application and adapt the process accordingly. We have a member of our team who was just like you on exchange during last year's recruitment, so why not you?
Do I have to be a student at the UCLouvain to join?
Yes. LouvainMUN is open to all bachelor and master students coming from all fields of studies enrolled at the UCLouvain for the academic year 2021-2022.
Do I need anything in particular to apply?
Some experience with MUN, debates or public speaking and an international background are a plus, but not a must!
Exchanges: we will unfortunately not consider applications from students on exchange during the academic year 2020-2021.
Internships: we will consider the applications from students on internship during the academic year 2020-2021 on a case per case basis as this should not prevent you from being actively involved in the association.
How much time do I need to invest when I join ?
In addition, as an entourage member in sponsoring, communication, events or logistics & HR, you'll assist and support the board in coordinating our activities and further developping the association.
Being a member is thus an activity that requires time and personal investment ( about 5 hours/week + 2x3 days abroad) but that can be easily combined with studies*, sports and other extra-academic activities.
*from September 2021 until end of November 2021 and from February 2022 untill end of April 2022 with special arrangements for off-session and mid-term exams.
